Tradition meets imagination.
A culinary journey from Southern African village kitchens to globally inspired tables in Virginia.
Meet Janet “Gino.”
Janet, affectionately known as “Gino,” developed her love for cooking while watching family members prepare traditional Southern African meals in her village home. In that simple yet vibrant community, food was never just nourishment—it brought people together and preserved cherished traditions.
Her fondest memories include her grandmother baking fresh scones and preparing sorghum meal and chicken stew in a three-legged clay pot over an open fire. Those moments created a lifelong appreciation for authentic homemade cooking and the joy of sharing a meal.
Travel and life in the United States opened a new world of ingredients and techniques. Cooking classes and culinary experiences introduced Gino to French, Italian and other international traditions. She began blending those influences with her Botswana and Southern African roots—creating dishes that celebrate heritage while welcoming discovery.

Cooking is an art—and courage is an ingredient.
Gino believes memorable cooking is driven by passion, creativity, common sense and the confidence to experiment.
Every menu begins with listening: the people, the occasion, the favorite flavors and the memories a host wants to create. From comforting African classics to French-influenced details and Italian-inspired generosity, each dish is approached with imagination, care and a commitment to quality.
Gino’s Creative Cooking was born from that vision: a celebration of culture, flavor and creativity brought together in every dish.
